UT athletic director Mike Hamilton announced Tuesday an agreement has been reached between Tennessee and Oklahoma for a pair of games in 2014 and 2015.
The Vols will travel to Oklahoma on Sept. 13, 2014. The Sooners return the favor and come to Knoxville on Sept. 12, 2015.
"This matchup is another opportunity for two of the great traditional college football programs to meet on the field," Hamilton said. "Both programs have storied histories and rank among the NCAA's top 10 in all-time total wins."
Oklahoma AD Joe Castiglione had the same kind of response to the long-range plan.
"We're very excited to announce this agreement with Tennessee," he said in a release. "We embrace intersectional match-ups that bring together programs rich in tradition.
"Games of this kind are significant to fans from both schools, but also for college football in general."
If you look at the records of each school dating back to 1926, it's No. 1 in the nation against No. 3.
Tennessee is No. 1 with 618 victories since Gen. Robert R. Neyland coached his first team. Oklahoma is No. 3 with 602 victories.
All that history, and the two teams have met only twice.
Tennessee beat the Sooners 17-0 in the 1939 Orange Bowl. In 1968, again at the Orange Bowl, Oklahoma won 26-24.
