UT's caravan of four buses was accosted by LSU fans as it neared Tiger Stadium. Three windows were shattered on the last bus by thrown bottles from the crowd, UT athletic director Mike Hamilton confirmed.
"I don't know about the other buses, but three windows were broken on the one I was on,'' Hamilton said. "The fans were a little rowdy, rocking the bus back and forth.''
The bus Hamilton was on contained staff members and cheerleaders but no players.
The windows shattered but did not shower glass into the interior of the bus, said executive athletic director Gary Wyant.
The lead bus was doused with beer, said Vicky Fulmer, wife of head coach Phillip Fulmer.
The plane ride and the hotel area provided for pre-game meal and team meetings were fine, Hamilton said.
"I've said along, what we do is make the best of a less-than-perfect situation,'' Hamilton said. "Now that we're here, let's play the game and get on with it and then get back to some sense of normalcy.''
