McNeil likely will be lost for the season and redshirt. McNeil has decided to pursue the treatment at Southeastern Sports Medicine in Asheville N.C. The News Sentinel first reported in August that McNeil was having trouble with both shoulders, particularly the left.
McNeil did not figure into UT's immediate plans this season. However, coaches have complimented the 6-foot-4, 280 pounder on his competitive nature in practice as he played against defenders that were more physically mature.
McNeil, who is from Collins, Miss., was widely considered the top center prospect in the nation when he signed with the Vols in February.
