Riggs: Vols won't fall into trap

Tennessee running back Gerald Riggs savored the moment of Monday night's comeback victory at LSU.

He enjoyed the fanfare early Tuesday morning when the Vols arrived home. He talked about the game with friends during the day. He said he spoke to family members Tuesday night and "pretty much got it out of my system."

Today, thoughts of LSU are long gone and the Vols' focus is Ole Miss.

"We've put it behind us," Riggs said Wednesday. "Go out and play against Ole Miss. They're a quality opponent. They're going to be ready to play."

UT returns to the favorite's role after two weeks of underdog status against Florida and LSU. The Vols are three-touchdown favorites against Ole Miss, which lost 24-14 at home to Wyoming last week.

"I'm pretty sure they're going to be thinking with the kind of game we just played and the emotion," Riggs said, "that we're going to probably lag a little bit, but we can't fall into that trap. We've got to be ready to go out and play and play another physical ballgame."

Cornerback Jason Allen believes there will be a positive carryover from the second half of the LSU game when the Vols rallied from a 21-0 deficit to win in overtime 30-27.

"I think us having that emotional high that we had the second half, I feel like that was just a foundation for us, to let (the players) know what type of team we're capable of having," Allen said. "I was saying all along some guys may not realize what type of team we're capable of having, and I believe that opened a lot of guys' eyes and said, 'Hey, if we go out and play like that for four quarters, there's no telling how we could play, there's no telling what kind of numbers we could put up.' "

UT has won the last 11 games against Ole Miss. The Rebels last beat the Vols 13-10 in Knoxville in 1983.

It may be tough for the Vols to match their intensity for LSU. UT must avoid coming out flat against the Rebels.

"The easiest way to get up for it is knowing if you don't win this game, the big win that you had against LSU doesn't count for anything," guard Cody Douglas said. "It's going to go down in the record books, but it doesn't matter anything the rest of the year."
