Ex-Vol Watson shows pro scouts

Former Tennessee point guard C.J. Watson made the most of his showing at the Portsmouth (Va.) Invitational, leading his assigned squad in scoring two of the three games he played and making the all-tournament team.

The tournament, played Thursday through Saturday before 200 NBA coaches and scouts, featured 64 of the top outgoing seniors divided into eight teams.

Watson led his team to the finals by averaging 16.3 points per game and hitting 56.7 percent of his shots and 71.4 percent of his 3-point attempts.

Watson’s best game was his second of the tournament when he scored 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting and had three rebounds, two steals and an assist.

Watson finished his UT career second on the all-time assists list with 577 and 198 steals.

St. Peter's Keydren Clark was named the tournament MVP after averaging 19.3 points per game. Joining Watson and Clark on the all-tournament team were Solomon Jones (South Florida), Jose Juan Barea (Northeastern), Steve Novak (Marquette), Greg Brunner (Iowa), Eric Hicks (Cincinnati), Akin Akingbala (Clemson), Chris Hernandez (Stanford), Daniel Kickert (St. Mary's) and Nick George (Virginia Commonwealth).
