Athletic director Mike Hamilton said UT is aware of the situation and is looking into the matter. Hamilton said he had no reason to believe that McClendon's eligibility would be affected at this point in the investigation.
"Pursuant to school policy we cannot discuss the specifics of this situation," said Michael McBrien, Associate Head of Student Affairs at Baylor. "Jacques has a promising future ahead of him and we wish him well in both his educational and athletic pursuits."
In a statement released late Wednesday, Baylor said "High School football standout Jacques McClendon was permitted to withdraw from Baylor School Wednesday morning and has enrolled in Walker Valley High School in Bradley County."
McClendon is originally from Cleveland, where his mother still lives.
McClendon was offered a scholarship to Baylor, a private, boarding school in Chattanooga, after eighth grade.
Phone calls to McClendon and his mother, Stephanie McClendon, were not returned. McClendon was on pace to graduate later this spring.
McClendon nearly graduated from Baylor in December in order enroll at UT in January. He lacked one class that was only offered in the spring semester.
McClendon was one of UT's highest-rated signees of the 2005 class. The 6-foot-3, 325-pounder is projected to play offensive guard.
