Fulmer will hit the road to Jackson

Tennessee head football coach Phillip Fulmer is scheduled to visit Jackson (Tenn.) Central-Merry High School next week, Cougars coach Cedric Hampton told the Jackson Sun newspaper. UT is recruiting Tavis Hogsett, a 6-3, 230-pound linebacker.

The Sun also reported that baseball star Drew Hayes from McKenzie (Tenn.) High School has listed Vanderbilt and UT as his top two schools. The pitcher said he also is considering Birmingham Southern, Kentucky, Memphis and Bethel, where his father, Glenn Hayes, is the head baseball coach.

Hayes has also expressed interest in playing football at UT. Hayes, a quarterback, was the 2005 Class 1A Mr. Football Back. He is 5-11 and 195 pounds. However, if Hayes played football then he would have to count against UT's scholarship limit in football, not baseball, unless he was willing to be a walk-on in both sports.

Hayes is not as coveted a football prospect as he is a baseball prospect.

Earlier this week Glenn Hayes had a 30-minute phone conversation with UT offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe, who was said to be impressed with Hayes' football highlight tape, the Sun reported.
