Nothing little about Little

ATHENS, Ga. -- Chris Little's surname is misleading.

First of all, he's not little. He's 6-foot-6 and 300 pounds.

Then, there's his stature among offensive linemen in the Southeast. Nothing small about that, either.

He is considered one of the top offensive lineman prospects in the region.

"My options are still open," the football star from Twiggs County High School in Jeffersonville, Ga., said. "I'm looking at all schools."

That's good news for Tennessee, which is actively recruiting Little. The charge is being led by UT recruiting coordinator Matt Luke, who coaches UT's tight ends and assists with the offensive line.

"They've shown a lot of interest," Little said of the Vols. "I talk to Coach Luke about once or twice a week. We've built up a pretty good relationship with each other.

"They're a good team. I like them. I like them a lot."

How strong are the Vols in the hunt?

Little seems as open-minded as most any prospect you talk to. He said he plans to whittle down his options to eight or 10 schools later this spring. Right now, he's not giving any hints.

Little said distance from home could be a significant factor so his parents could easily come watch him play. Then, in the same sentence he said distance might not be that important.

"They tell me to go where my heart is," Little said of his family.

Jeffersonville is about a five-hour drive from Knoxville. That's not far, but it's further than Auburn, Clemson, Georgia and Georgia Tech.

Little was present at Saturday's Nike camp but didn't participate in any drills because of a twisted ankle he suffered in a recent track meet.

Still, Little was hard to miss.

Down Davis: Darius Davis was disappointed with his time in the 40-yard dash. The defensive back/wide receiver from Whitehaven High School in Memphis ran a 4.6.

Davis seemed a bit surprised. He said he had been timed in the 4.4 range recently.

"It's a different story when you've got the electric time," he said. "Plus, it was chilly out here today and my limbs were kind of stiff. I've always have time to work on that."

Davis said he's still looking at UT, Miami, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Memphis and Virginia Tech. The 6-1, 180-pounder has yet to receive his first scholarship offer.

"Tennessee is a great school and has great tradition," Davis said. "I really like Tennessee. They have a nice coaching staff, too."

Davis said he planned to participate in other combine-style camps soon.

Talent Poole: Running back Tauren Poole performed well at the Nike camp on Saturday. Poole will be a junior this fall at Stephens County High School.

UT has a strong relationship with the Toccoa, Ga., high school. Head coach Travis Noland was Jonathan Crompton's head coach when Noland coached at Tuscola High School in Waynesville, N.C. Crompton is a redshirt freshman quarterback at UT.

Noland said Florida State is one of the schools that has shown early interest. He said he believes nearby Clemson will offer Poole a scholarship soon.
