Holdout Allen purchases $991,000 mansion

DAVIE, Fla. - Day 4 of Jason Allen's holdout came and went with little progress, but a lack of a contract didn't keep the Miami Dolphins first-round draft pick from making his first big purchase during the weekend.

According to a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the former University of Tennessee star showed up Saturday at the court-ordered auction for the estate of investments manager Kirk Wright in Marietta, Ga., in a T-shirt, baggy gym shorts and a baseball cap - and left with a mansion that cost Allen $991,000.

Wright, who is facing fraud charges for allegedly bilking about 430 clients - including former NFL Pro Bowlers Steve Atwater and Blaine Bishop - out of more than $100 million, is in jail after his bond was revoked.

If Allen, the 16th pick, thinks he'll soon be paying back whatever loan he got to buy the house after Tye Hill, the 15th selection, signed for five years and $10.2 million with the Rams on Sunday, he might want to think again.

Dolphins coach Nick Saban sounded in lockstep with the organization's position that Allen sign a six-year deal, which the Dolphins are entitled to under the collective bargaining agreement. Allen and his agent, Mitch Frankel, want a five-year contract.

''It really doesn't matter,'' Saban told The Miami Herald of the Rams' contract with Hill. "That was their choice. We got our choices. We're going to run our business the way we run our business.''
