The Commercial Appeal reported Schaeffer has passed all of his classes at the College of the Sequoias in Visalia, Calif., and was admitted into Ole Miss on Wednesday afternoon.
He was scheduled to arrive in Memphis late Wednesday night on a flight from Fresno, Calif. From Memphis, he was expected to make his way to Oxford.
Schaeffer, who will be the Rebels starting quarterback this fall, is expected to report with the rest of team today as they check in their dorms, meet for dinner tonight, and begin preparations for the start of preseason practice at 3 p.m. Saturday.
His arrival ends the speculation that has surrounded him since he signed with the Rebels on Feb. 1. Schaeffer, who originally attended Tennessee before transferring to COS last year, planned to arrive at Ole Miss in late May, after his graduation from COS. But he learned he had to take more classes in order graduate. Schaeffer also had to have 40 percent of his degree requirements completed before entering Ole Miss for his third year of college.
While taking correspondence classes from his parents' home in Deerfield Beach, Fla., Schaeffer had hoped to enroll in Ole Miss's second summer session. But with those classes taking longer than expected, Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron suggested Schaeffer return to COS and enroll in their summer session, which would ensure he would complete his work in time for the start of preseason practice.
Ole Miss is expected to, at which time he will be admitted to Ole Miss and allowed to practice.
With one of the most highly coveted quarterbacks in the country, both as a high school player and a junior college star, now on campus, the Rebels have a quarterback who threw for 2,975 yards, 40 touchdowns, and just six interceptions at COS last season. He also accounted for 854 yards rushing and 12 more TDs, while breaking 11 school records.
Orgeron, who named Schaeffer his starter on signing day, is looking for Schaeffer to pay huge dividends, while jump starting an offense that was one of the worst in the country last season. Adding Schaeffer to an improved offensive line, transfer running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis, and a collected of speedy receivers has Orgeron looking forward to the start of practice.
''I'm anxious to see everybody together,'' Orgeron said.
