The cornerback/wide receiver from Norman (Okla.) High School has received scholarship offers from 11 schools, including Tennessee, Arkansas, South Carolina, Oklahoma State, Texas A & M and Texas Tech.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Broyles said the difficult decision constantly weighs heavily on his mind.
"Just getting closer to the season," he said, "theres more pressure. Its not too bad, but its getting there."
"I just try to keep my mind off it really. I try to stay out of the situation."
Broyles said hes making sure to be careful during the process. He said he wont make a commitment until hes 100 percent sure.
"Thats a big deal," he said. "I want to be able to give my word if theyre giving their word. I dont want to disappoint anyone."
Broyles said he plans to take official visits to UT, Texas A&M and Texas Tech in the fall. He said he will take his two other visits but doesnt know where.
Broyles has visited Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Oklahoma unofficially this summer. He said a visit to Knoxville should give him a better idea how UT measures up against schools in the Big 12.
"Thats real important," he said. "I couldnt make an unofficial visit there. I need to take an official visit because its so far away."
Broyles said hes had strong interest in UT since the Vols offered him a scholarship in May. He said hes been impressed by UTs defensive style and winning tradition.
"I like the whole atmosphere," he said. "Its a big school to me. The SEC is big to me."
Broyles will most likely attend a school in the SEC or Big 12. He said the SEC has an advantage because of its defensive strength.
"Defense is demanding in the SEC," he said. "Thats a big deal to me because I play cornerback."
Broyles could also play wide receiver in college. In eight games last season he had 18 catches for 370 yards and five touchdowns.
While UT is recruiting Broyles at cornerback, he said Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Arkansas are recruiting him to play on either side of the ball. He said South Carolina is recruiting him to play on offense only.
Oklahoma State has recruited him the hardest, Broyles said, adding that he appreciates the Cowboys strong pursuit but wont use that against the other schools.
"I receive a lot of letters and text messages from them," he said. "Its pretty good but I know a lot of schools work in different ways with their schedules."
Broyles said he had previously planned to make a decision before the end of his high school season. Broyles said he has no timetable.
"Theres no way to tell," he said. "Whenever I know, I will do it."
