  • Marvin Mitchell: Fifth-year senior middle linebacker suspended indefinitely after being charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct May 1. Reached deal with prosecutors to have charge expunged from his record if he avoided trouble for 30 days and paid court costs. UT coach Phillip Fulmer said at SEC media days last week that he expects Mitchell to be available for the Sept. 2 opener against California.
  • Raymond Henderson: Redshirt freshman defensive tackle dismissed from team May 3 after making "inappropriate" comments to a woman and her daughter at a Knoxville restaurant. No charges were filed. Henderson has since transferred to Minnesota.
  • Jim Bob Cooter: Fifth-year senior backup quarterback suspended indefinitely after being charged with driving under the influence near campus June 3 at around 3:25 a.m. Preliminary hearing set for Aug. 17. Cooter will miss the California opener.
  • Marsalous Johnson: Redshirt freshman defensive back charged with aggravated assault after allegedly pointing a toy gun at Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Hoover while driving on Interstate 40 Sunday night. Johnson was suspended Wednesday for the first four games of the season.
  • Lee Smith: Incoming freshman tight end from Powell High School charged with driving under the influence Wednesday and dismissed from the team. Also part of an ongoing grade tampering and "sexual and/or inappropriate relationship" investigation involving a suspended assistant principal at Powell.
