The University of Tennessee offered the Alcoa High School junior a football scholarship Saturday at its scrimmage.
However, Sommer, a wide receiver/cornerback, wasn't ready to give a verbal pledge.
"I'm not really ready to commit to anywhere right now," said Sommer, the 2005 PrepXtra sophomore of the year. "I just want to wait it out. I'm really interested in UT, and they are among my top (choices). I just didn't want to commit."
Sommer intercepted 12 passes in 15 games last season, helping the Tornadoes to their second-consecutive Class 2A title.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder said he's hoping to get looks from South Carolina and Alabama and other SEC schools.
"Growing up my favorite team was Miami (Fla.)," said Sommer. "But I don't feel like going that far away from home."
