UT sends in report on Taylor

Tennessee sent documents to the SEC office on Friday, self-reporting a secondary violation concerning assistant football coach Trooper Taylor's speaking engagement.

"It should take about three to four weeks before we hear back," said Tiffany Carpenter, UT director of public relations, adding that the SEC will forward to the letter to the NCAA.

Taylor spoke to a group of fans and alumni on July 13 in Memphis at the home of Karl Schledwitz, a member of the UT's Board of Trustees, the report states.

After the speech, donations were collected from those present to provide an honorarium to Taylor. The report states $3,000 was raised.

Taylor "did receive prior approval for the honorarium .. and the amount of the honorarium was above the customary amount assistant coaches receive for speaking at such events, which ranges from $500 to $1,500," the report states.

UT said this was a violation of NCAA Bylaw 11.2.3.3 involving supplemental income.

In the self-report, UT said as corrective action the entire amount was deposited by Taylor in the Thornton Athletic Academic Advising budget, a letter of admonishment was sent to Taylor, and an advisory letter was sent to Schledwitz.
