Defensive lineman Gerald Williams, receiver Stephaun Raines and offensive lineman Cody Pope were all deemed ineligible, UT coach Phillip Fulmer said Wednesday.
"Were looking into any appeal processes that are out there," Fulmer said. "Obviously were under a significant time restraint right now with Friday being the last day of drop and add."
Williams wait has been by far the longest of the three.
After signing with the Vols in 2005 out of Boyd Anderson High School in Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., Raines was pulled from practice last August after the NCAA questioned one of three correspondence classes he took at the now-defunct University High in Miami.
Williams went back home to work on becoming eligible, but was flagged again by the clearinghouse after his ACT score jumped from an 18 to a 23.
Raines issues came with a disputed grade he received at Dalton (Ga.) High in the spring semester.
Pope, a 6-5, 270-pound lineman from Julian, Calif., was pulled from practice last week after a question surfaced about his standardized test score.
"Were going to look into all that, see what the options are whether theyre prep schools, junior colleges or stay at home and continue improvement of their academics and so on," Fulmer said. "At least thats settled.
"Its going to give me an opportunity to help a couple of other young guys thats on our football team for one year. From that standpoint, thats a good thing."
Eight of Tennessees 22 signees in the class of 2006 have either been dismissed from the team or failed to qualify academically.
Morristown Easts Blake Garretson and Powells Lee Smith were dismissed for disciplinary reasons, while Williams, Raines and Pope join Alcoas Dustin Lindsey, Justin Garrett and Brent Vinson as non-qualifiers.
