Chism starts over Crews

Tennessee men’s basketball coach Bruce Pearl didn’t plan on a lineup change Wednesday night, but freshman center Duke Crews convinced him to make one.

"Duke came to me and said he read the newspaper and saw the deal about Wayne (Chism) and Willie (Kemp),’’ Pearl said, referring to a Commercial Appeal story chronicling the relationship between the two former Bolivar High School standouts. "Duke asked me if I wouldn’t mind, if Wayne could start instead of him.’’

Crews started each game this season, but he and Chism typically split the minutes evenly.

Prior to the start of the season, Chism told Pearl he didn’t care if Crews started instead of him.

"This says a lot about those two young men,’’ Pearl said. "It says a lot about the team building that’s going on."
