Vols ranked by AP (21st), snubbed by coaches

Tennessee is back in The Associated Press Top 25. Now that men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl has convinced the media that the Vols are worthy, he needs to do the same with his peers.

The Vols (10-2) are ranked No. 21 from the 72-member national media panel. UT was ranked in the preseason AP Top 25 and for the first two weeks of the season before losing consecutive games to Butler and North Carolina in the NIT Season Tip-Off.

Since then, Tennessee has won six in a row, including a decisive win over Memphis and last week's victories over Oklahoma State and Texas, 111-105 in overtime.

In the USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll, the Vols missed out of the Top 25 and are first in others receiving votes to put them 26th if there was such a thing.

A majority of the coaches preferred Michigan State over UT.

UT won't get a whole lot of help with its home schedule this week with games against Tennessee Tech on Thursday and East Tennessee State University on Saturday.
