Court storms again on Gators

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- For the second time this season, Florida found itself on the other end of the stormed court celebration.

The Arkansas student section charged the court moments after Arkansas pulled off its 85-81 upset of No. 10 Florida. It was a smaller contingent than the mob of students that hit the floor following Tennessee's home upset of the Gators but will likely draw a $5,000 fine as a first offense in the SEC's access to competition policy.

During the celebration, an Arkansas student confronted Florida point guard Taurean Green as he was leaving the floor. Arkansas backup point guard Sean McCurdy stepped in to keep the student as far from Green as possible.

"He said some words to me," Green said. "He didn't hit me or touch me or anything like that. One of their players got in the way."

Members of the Florida support staff pointed out the student to police. He attempted to run out of the arena before police spotted him. Florida players were able to get off the court without incident when Tennessee fans stormed the court against the Gators a month ago.

The crowd of 10,702 Saturday was below a sellout at Bud Walton Arena because of inclement weather. An ice and snow storm Friday night dumped four inches on the area. Many roads remained unplowed Saturday morning.

The building remained loud during a game with many emotional turns and tight calls.

"Arkansas fans are great fans," Florida coach Billy Donovan said. "It's a shame because you have two really great teams playing against each other and it wasn't a sellout because of the weather in the area."

Donovan was able to get to the locker room before students stormed the court, shortly after congratulating Arkansas coach Stan Heath.

"To me, it's a (SEC Commissioner) Mike Slive issue, it's an administrative issue," Donovan said. "It's not a Billy Donovan issue or a Stan Heath issue. I would have liked to been able to congratulate Ronnie Brewer or Jonathan Modica after the game, but it just wasn't possible.

"I just wish there was a way for them to do it after the teams got off the court. Party all you want after that, but not while the teams are still out there."

Heath, who labeled the Florida win the best in his four years at Arkansas, said he had no concerns about students reaching the court or the fine that will come as a result of it.
