UT luxury suites sold out
The 32 luxury suites proposed for Thompson-Boling Arena are sold out, University of Tennessee men's athletics director Mike Hamilton said Tuesday.
UT is reserving one suite for its media-rights holder, but the other 31 have been snapped up.
"We don't have any more available,'' Hamilton said. "We'll still take deposits in case there's a cancellation.''
The Vols' surprising success on the court this year under coach Bruce Pearl propelled donors to get on board for the suites that are targeted for the 2007-08 season.
In the meantime, Hamilton still expects the practice facility project to break ground this summer.
"The basketball projects are on parallel tracts,'' Hamilton said. "To this point, we've been full steam ahead on the practice facility and working along diligently on the arena.
"This will allow us to pick up the pace on the arena.''
Media Rights Package: UT will be soliciting proposals this spring for its media-rights package. The contract with Host Communications expires in June 2007.
UT's media rights have been operating with three separate arms. Hamilton said UT will consider whether to combine two or even all three under one contract.
Host Communications produces radio and television broadcasts and game programs.
Action Sports Media handles the Jumbotron screens in the arena and Neyland Stadium.
UT also internally handles some promotions and sales projects.
"It's our feeling that (some of the projects) ought to be rolled into one,'' Hamilton said.
The Action Sports Media contract runs through 2014, but UT has a buyout clause it may exercise if it sees fit.
"At this point, we'll probably test the marketplace,'' Hamilton said. "What we're doing is seeking proposals, not quotes.''
