HomeFootball Recruiting

Q&A: Victor Thomas

Victor Thomas has one goal when he walks onto the football field.

Win.

The 6-foot-3, 263-pound defensive end signed a national letter of intent to play football for Tennessee on Feb. 1.

Thomas talked about his goal to help UT win in this GVX Q and A.

Q: What was your most memorable moment from an official visit?

The most memorable moment was going into Neyland Stadium. My first thought was there are a lot of people that could fit in there. I thought it’d be exciting to play in there. That’d be really great.

Q: What was your least favorite part of the recruiting process?

A: Getting up early in the morning during the visits. That and all the phone calls.

Q: Who has been the most significant influence on your football career?

A: My parents. They always believed in me and they told me I could do anything I put my mind to. I was always able to talk to them when I needed something. I could go to them when something was wrong. They always kept me up.

Q: When did you know you would have a future in football?

A: I knew about my ninth grade year. Our ninth grade team went 6-0. We were the first undefeated team. I didn’t think I’d be playing Division-1. I knew I’d play at that level when I started getting all the calls before my senior year.

Q: Is there anyone you model your game after?

A: Dwight Freeney. He has great quickness and footwork. I think he’s done a great job. He has heart and he doesn’t let people get him down. I’d rank him at the top of the defensive ends in the NFL.

Q: What is your favorite part about playing football?

A: Winning. I think that will translate into college because they (UT) have a great program. I want to help their defense to get them up.

Q: What athletic moment are you most proud of?

A: When I got my first sack. That was my tenth grade year. It made me feel excited. I loved it. There’s no feeling like it. It feels good and makes you smile.

Q: Who is your favorite celebrity?

A: Michael Vick. He’s so elusive. He’s quick and they can’t tackle him.

Q: How do you change your approach to a quarterback based off his scrambling abilities?

A: It changes a lot. You have to know how to rush at an angle toward a guy like Michael Vick.

Q: What would you do to tackle Vick?

A: I wouldn’t just rush after him. I would keep him from getting outside and keep him contained.
