UT VS. Memphis
What the UT-Memphis series lacks in quantity, it has made up in
quality. Of 16 meetings, 10 have been decided by five or fewer points
and eight were decided by two or fewer.
Here are some highlights:

- UT 76, Memphis State 74 (Dec. 29, 1988): After a 19-year hiatus, the Vols win in the Volunteer Classic. The Tigers have the ball last but UT denies Elliot Perry a shot, forcing forward Steve Ballard to miss a jumper at the buzzer.

- UT 73, Memphis State 71 (March 14, 1990): The Vols avenge their early-season loss in an NIT victory at Mid-South Coliseum. Jay Price's free throws give the Vols a 73-71 lead with 17 seconds left and they survive two turnovers and two Tiger misses.
- Memphis State 74, UT 72 (Nov. 27, 1990): The Vols erase a 20-point lead but the Tigers escape on Kelvin Allen's tip-in at the buzzer.
- UT 65, Memphis State 64 (Dec. 14, 1991): Trailing 64-63, Allan Houston is fouled driving to the basket with 2.2 seconds left. He hits both free throws to deliver the win before a Pyramid crowd of 20,142.

- UT 68, Memphis 67 (Dec. 2, 1998): Dinno Daniels' 3-pointer gives Memphis its only lead, 67-66, but Isiah Victor's dunk on a C.J. Black assist rescues the Vols.
- UT 74, Memphis 69 (Dec. 18, 1999): Tony Harris goes 8-of-8 at the free-throw line down the stretch as UT overturns a 15-point deficit. Black and three Tigers are ejected in the first half.
