UT spring drills start March 2

Tennessee's football team begins looking for redemption in March.

UT announced that the Vols will hit the practice field March 2 for spring drills. UT will hold 15 practices as it tries to bounce back from a disappointing 5-6 season.

UT will also practice March 3, 4, 7, 9, 11, 14, 16, 28, 30, 31 and April 1, 4, 6.

The spring session will culminate with the Orange and White Game at 2 p.m. April 8.

The UT Strength and Conditioning Clinic will be held Feb. 24-25 in Neyland-Thompson Sports Center. The clinic will be hosted by head strength and conditioning coach Johnny Long and his staff.

Minor Announcement: Go ahead and cross Brandon Minor off UT's recruiting board.

The fullback from Varina High School in Richmond Va., didn't waste any time announcing his commitment during a Friday afternoon press conference.

"I'm going to Michigan," the 6-foot, 210-pounder said just seconds into the event.

Minor was also considering UT.

"My mom and I sat down," he said. "It was a long process. We said to each other, 'Which school would I be more happy with if I didn't play football?' I figured Michigan would be it."

Lucky Seven: UT is expected to sign 20-25 prospects for its 2006 class. That gives UT, which has 18 commitments, seven slots left to fill, if need be. UT, however, may not sign a full class of 25 prospects. Its class size will depend on what caliber of athletes is willing to sign.

National signing day is Feb. 1. UT's latest commitment came Thursday from Brent Vinson from Phoebus High School in Hampton, Va. The 6-2, 180-pounder is one of the highest rated receivers in the country.

TV Vols: Two former UT players will attempt to improve their NFL stock during all-star games today.

Defensive end Jason Hall will head to San Antonio for the East-West Shrine Game, set for 4 p.m. on ESPN2. Linebacker Omar Gaither will participate in the Hula Bowl in Honolulu, Hawaii, to be televised on ESPN at 7.
