Buzz timeline
- As a high school player out of Asheville, N.C., Buzz Peterson was a
Parade and McDonalds All- American, earning North Carolina Player
of the Year honors ahead of future University of North Carolina
teammate Michael Jordan.
- Played four years for the Tar Heels, helping them to a 115-22
overall record and winning a national championship in 1982.
- Earned his first coaching job as an assistant at Appalachian State
from 1987-89.
- Assistant coaching positions at East Tennessee State (1989-90),
North Carolina State (1990-93) and Vanderbilt (1993-96).
- Became head coach at Appalachian State in 1996 with an overall
record of 79-39 in four years.
- He spent one year at Tulsa, going 26-11 and winning the NIT
championship in 2001.
- Named head coach at Tennessee in 2001, going 15-16, 17-12, 15-14
and 14-17 over the course of the next four years.
- March 13, 2005, fired as coach at Tennessee.
- April 13, 2005, hired as new head coach at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C.
