Crompton right on track
Setback was expected for UT quarterback
The Tennessee freshman quarterback was told to stop throwing late last week after soreness developed in his right (throwing) shoulder. Crompton underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in the shoulder on Aug. 10.
Crompton was back on the field throwing Monday after being given anti-inflammatory medication.
Crompton's procedure was performed by Dr. Andrew Jones from Southeastern Sports Medicine in Asheville, N.C.
"If he'd have gone through the entire process without any setbacks or soreness," Jones said, "he would be the first I've ever seen."
Jones said he hopes that Crompton will be released from his rehabilitation by early March, when UT begins spring practice. Jones said, however, that even if Crompton is full speed, his level of participation also will hinge on the judgment of UT's coaching staff.
"The bottom line is I think he's still doing very well," Jones said. "He's right where I hoped he would be at this point in his rehabilitation."
Crompton redshirted last season after his shoulder surgery. He is expected to compete with junior-to-be Erik Ainge for playing time this season.
