Goggans: Warren's decision helps UT

There appears to be far less competition for Michael Goggans at Tennessee now that Brandon Warren has chosen to play his college football at Florida State.

Goggans said he paid close attention to the announcement by the Alcoa tight end/defensive end Monday night.

Although Goggans already has made his college choice, he said Warren's decision helps UT.

"That's even better for Tennessee's chances," he said Monday night. "They really don't have a set H-back. Chris Brown was the only guy that was versatile that could move like an H-back and shift out of the backfield."

Goggans, a tight end/defensive end from Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City, Ala., said he informed the coaching staffs of Tennessee, Alabama and Auburn last Thursday of which school he plans to attend next year. Goggans said he will make his decision public on Wednesday — National Signing Day.

Goggans said his choice did not sit well with the two schools he turned down.

"Right now, since I told the coaches what I'm going to do," the 6-foot-2, 250-pounder said, "some of the coaches got a little mad. That's okay. They just have to deal with the situation I guess.

"I'm in a good place where I'm going. It's a good place academically, athletically and socially."

Goggans said he was disappointed by the two schools' reactions.

"It was kind of tough on me," he said. "But I just had to deal with it and I guess they did, too."
