Preseason All-SEC: Only five Vols on it

Sears, Harrell picked as first-teamers

SEC football coaches aren’t particularly impressed with Tennessee’s talent going into the 2006 season.

Five Vols were included among 88 players named on the coaches’ preseason All-SEC teams announced Thursday. Only Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and South Carolina had fewer.

Offensive lineman Arron Sears and defensive tackle Justin Harrell were picked to the first team.

Tailback Arian Foster and defensive back Jonathan Hefney are on the second team. Defensive lineman Turk McBride is on the third team.

Auburn led the balloting with 14 overall picks, seven of them on the first team.

Georgia, Arkansas and LSU have 12 picks each. Florida has 10, Kentucky seven and Alabama six.

Georgia had five first-team picks.

Ole Miss has only two picks but one of them, linebacker Patrick Willis of Bruceton, Tenn., was the only unanimous first-team selection.

UT’s Sears was one of three repeaters from the coaches’ 2005 first team.

The media will select preseason teams next week at SEC Football Media Days.
