Central Florida won't play Vols here in 2007

La.-Lafayette to fill in, giving Vols an open date before Georgia game

Tennessee will not play Central Florida at Neyland Stadium on Sept. 29, 2007, according to a report by WVLT.

Instead, the Vols will play Louisiana-Lafayette on Nov. 3 of next year, WVLT said.

The Knoxville television station was made aware of the change by checking future schedules on UT's Web site utsports.com. on Sunday.

Central Florida assistant athletic director for media relations John Marini told WVLT that the Golden Knights opted to buy out the contract for the game with UT because the Golden Knights needed to add a Conference USA game, of which it became a member last year.

Central Florida was 8-4 in Conference USA while the Ragin' Cajuns were 6-5 in the Sun Belt Conference last season.

Officials from UT declined to comment on the possible change Monday and the schedule on utsports.com has been returned to its original form. Athletic director Mike Hamilton could not be reached for comment.

The change gives UT an open date before it plays Georgia on Oct. 6 instead of an open date before Arkansas on Nov. 10.

There also have been questions raised about the status of the home-and-home schedule with North Carolina State.

"We are still scheduled to play Tennessee in 2008 and 2013," N.C. State athletic director Lee Fowler told Rivals.com. "However, due to a possible opportunity we have to play a home and home series with South Carolina sooner, we may have to change the Tennessee dates, not cancel them.

"The television people are working on it through the ACC office, but no contracts or commitments have been finalized."

Tickets: Individual game tickets for two UT home football games, Air Force (Sept. 9) and Kentucky (Nov. 25), will be available for purchase online at utsports.com beginning Wednesday. Tickets are $40 each plus shipping and handling.

"Every year we receive tickets back from some of our visiting opponent allotments," Hamilton said in a statement released by UT. "We hope that by making these tickets available to our fans in the summer, they will have more opportunities to make their football plans."

UT said it does not expect any tickets returned from California, Florida, Marshall, Alabama or LSU. However, any remaining single tickets will be available online, by calling (800)332-VOLS and at Thompson-Boling Arena beginning July 24.
