Cadet says Tennessee, Virginia Tech ‘still in a tie’

Travaris Cadet said he was leaning toward Tennessee over Virginia Tech on Wednesday in an interview with FlaVarsity.com. Then, Cadet was a bit coy when interviewed by the News Sentinel on Friday.

"It’s still a tie," the 6-foot-1, 200-pound quarterback said.

Cadet said he planned to announce his decision late this summer. He told the News Sentinel that UT and Virginia Tech were tied for his services in April, but many thought the Hokies had the silent lead because of their history with athletic quarterbacks like brothers Michael and Marcus Vick.

Cadet has drawn comparisons to former UT quarterback Brent Schaeffer, who is expected to start for Ole Miss this fall.

Virginia Tech is also in the running for Tyrod Taylor from Hampton, Va. The 6-1, 200-pounder is widely thought of as one of the best athletic quarterbacks in nation.

It seems unlikely that Virginia Tech could land Cadet and Taylor.

Tyler To Southern Cal: Running back Marc Tyler from Oaks Christian High in Westlake Village, Calif., told ESPN.com he has committed to Southern Cal.

Many thought Tyler would either follow his father, former Rams running back Wendell Tyler, who played at UCLA, or Oaks Christian teammate Jimmy Clausen, who committed to Notre Dame.

Tyler rushed for more than 2,000 yards and 39 touchdowns last season

Tyler made his decision public Thursday, but told Clausen of his decision earlier in the week.

"He was a little mad at first, but he knows it will be a good decision for me," the 6-foot, 215-pounder told ESPN.com

Tyler picked USC over Michigan, Notre Dame, UCLA and Oregon.

Auburn Bound: Chaz Ramsey committed to Auburn on Tuesday, according to AuburnSports.com. The 6-3, 270-pound offensive lineman from Madison (Miss.) Central High was considering UT along with Florida State, Michigan, South Carolina, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
