Bradshaw to have surgery after season

NASHVILLE - Dane Bradshaw's secret is out.

Tennessee's junior forward will need surgery on his injured right wrist at the end of the season.

South Carolina coach Dave Odom let it slip in his post-game press conference that Bradshaw told him he needed surgery.

Bradshaw injured his wrist in a fall during the Vols' 80-76 win over Florida in Knoxville on Jan. 21.

Bradshaw hasn't missed any playing time because of the injury and has been wearing various protective casts and undergoing physical therapy.

Odom's faux pas came when he was asked about how well South Carolina contained Bradshaw in the Gamecocks' 79-71 over UT in the SEC tournament Friday.

"I just have the world of respect for him,'' Odom said. "I saw him wince a couple of times with that right wrist of his. I asked him after the game about it, and he said 'Coach, I'm going to have surgery.' "

Odom quickly realized his mistake in releasing the information.

"Probably, I shouldn't say that,'' he said. "None of my business to release that. I didn't mean to do that.

"If I said something wrong, Tennessee, I apologize.''

The SEC tournament printed Odom's comments in transcripts, further breaching any medical privacy Bradshaw might have been due.

Bradshaw was coming off a career-high 21-point, 10-rebound effort in a loss to Memphis before the injury.

Bradshaw was 10-of-32 (.313) from beyond the 3-point arc in the 14 games before the injury. He missed his next 10 3-point attempts after the injury.

Over the past seven games, however, Bradshaw has connected on 10-of-27 (.370) treys, including 2-of-5 Friday.

Bradshaw recently said it was just a matter of learning to play with the pain.

UT coach Bruce Pearl declined to comment on the injury.
