Strange selected top writer in state

Mike Strange, a 22-year veteran of the News Sentinel, has been named the Sportswriter of the Year for Tennessee by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

This is the second such honor for Strange. He also was chosen in 1999.

Mike Keith, voice of the Tennessee Titans and a former Knoxville talk-show host, was named Tennessee's Sportscaster of the Year.

The awards will be presented May 1 in the organization's annual festivities in Salisbury, N.C. Jim Nantz of CBS Sports and Steve Rushin of Sports Illustrated will be recognized as national sportscaster and sportswriter of the year, respectively.

Strange came to the News Sentinel in 1983. Most of his duties have revolved around covering University of Tennessee sports.
