Gruble, starter from '47 Freshman team, dies at 77
John Gruble, who scored on a 5-yard pass from Herky Payne for
Tennessee's first touchdown in a 20-14 Cotton Bowl victory over Texas
in 1951, died March 3 in Dallas, Texas.
He was a three-year starter at end for the Vols and was on the All-SEC Freshman Team in 1947.
He came to UT from Mount Airy, N.C. He was 77.
