Edgar hasn't heard from Murray
Edgar might be forced to decide soon: Murray State's head coaching job opened on Thursday, and there's speculation Edgar is a candidate.
Edgar, who joined first-year UT coach Bruce Pearl's staff this season after a three-year stint as an assistant at Alabama-Birmingham, already has one go-round as the Racers' coach.
Edgar was Murray State's coach 1991-95, leading the Racers to a 79-40 record and 56-16 Ohio Valley Conference mark. Edgar's Murray State teams made two trips to the NCAA tournament in his four seasons and played in the NIT another year.
Edgar left Murray State to take the head coaching job at Duquesne, which doubled his salary. Edgar was fired after three seasons at Duquesne.
Edgar said at this point there's no news where the Murray State opening is concerned.
"There's been no contact with Murray State officials at this point,'' Edgar said. "But I still have a lot of friends there, and I have heard speculation.''
Edgar said he would talk to Pearl before applying for the job, if he decides that it's in the best interests of his family.
"I'm not sure it is because we have such a tremendous situation here,'' Edgar said. "We're coming off a phenomenal year here, we have a tremendous recruiting class coming in, and I love the people I work with.''
Edgar said he and his family have gotten very comfortable living in the Knoxville area.
"This isn't all about me,'' Edgar said. "My son (Scott II) has been the new kid many times in his life. He's attending Alcoa High School, and that's the best school he's ever been in.
"I definitely want to have another head coaching job sometime, but I'm not sure if now is that time.''
