Lilburn, Ga.'s, King says he could play now

With another year of high school football to play, Caleb King is ready for the college game.

The running back from Parkview High School in Lilburn, Ga., said he has received scholarship offers from about 50 schools, including Tennessee, Southern Cal, Florida, Auburn, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech. King said wherever he goes he expects to contribute immediately.

"I want early playing time," the 5-foot-11, 190-pound King said. "I think I'm capable of playing (in college) right now. It's pretty important."

King said he knew he was going to be a high level Division I prospect after his junior season.

"I was going to camps and facing the best of the country," he said. "I was pretty much playing on top of them, better than them. So I figured I was pretty good."

Parkview coach Cecil Flowe, said King has always been a standout player. Flowe said King has set himself up to be in the position he's in.

"He's a hard worker," Flowe said. "He's prepared himself physically and he understands what he needs to do.

"He loves to compete. When I first saw him, I recognized he was going to be something special."

King said he hasn't set a list of schools and is wide open.

One school King has his eye on is UT. King said he visited UT last summer with his Parkview team during a coaches' clinic.

"I know (UT) pretty well," he said. "I remember the weight room and the indoor facilities. It's just a winning tradition."

King said he plans to develop a list of five schools he will officially visit before Parkview's regular season begins. He said eliminating schools won't be easy.

"I've got a lot of good programs," he said. "It's hard to choose from them. It's a wonderful feeling that all the people want me but I'm not letting it get to my head."

King said he has kept an eye on what Notre Dame is doing in recruiting. He said he has taken notice to Irish commitment Jimmy Clausen, a quarterback from Westlake Village, Calif.

King said playing in the same backfield with Clausen is enticing.

"I'd have the best quarterback in my same class," he said. "We'd kind of grow up together."

King said he has seen outside pressure from his peers to stay close to home and play for Georgia. He said the pressure will have no influence on his decision.

"They say since I live in Georgia I should stay in Georgia and help Georgia out," he said. "I'm just trying to pretty much please myself and my family."

King said he will lean on his family, especially his brother, for advice during the recruiting process.

"They say just make sure where I feel comfortable," he said. "I'm going to be staying there for the next four years."
