No more football camps for the 6-foot-1, 185-pound wide receiver
from Franklin High School.
"Im done," Campbell said. "Whats the point? Ive
impressed who I need to impress."
Campbell decided to play football for Tennessee in April when he became the Vols second commitment. UT now has five prospects who have pledged to be a part of the 2007 signing class.
Campbell was far from his best at his last football camp, which was held in Athens, Ga., on April 29. Campbell said he could barely stand as the camp began. Gradually, the sickness subsided but the combine portion of the camp, which is held at the beginning of such camps, was ruined.
"We dont want to say any of those numbers," Campbell said with a chuckle.
Campbell felt he was much improved late in the camp when one-on-one drills began.
"I think I ran the best routes," Campbell said. "I ran mine to the tee."
Speaking of "T", Campbell also did his best to visit with some other UT prospects, including Catholics Harrison Smith.
"I talked to him a little bit but I think hes looking somewhere else," Campbell said. "If you know you want to go to Tennessee, then why not just go ahead and commit."
Notre Dame has long been thought to be UTs chief competition for Smith. The Fighting Irish extended a scholarship offer to the 6-2, 205-pound athlete on Monday.
Smith is a versatile athlete that has been projected to play safety, linebacker and fullback. His preference is safety.
As for Campbell, hell focus on the waning track season where he participates in several events. And for those concerned about his speed after a sub-par camp in Athens, Campbell said he has posted a 10.8 in the 100-meter dash.
