The linebacker from White Station High School in Memphis attended the Nike football camp at Clemson on Sunday. Boykin said he wanted to be at the camp to help gain more exposure.
"Its helping tremendously," he said. "Nike is nationwide. Hopefully some more colleges that havent seen me yet get a chance to see me and hopefully they like what they see."
The 5-foot-11, 220-pound Boykin said he is waiting on his first scholarship offer but has received interest from Stanford, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Louisville and Southern Mississippi. He said Stanford and Vanderbilt are on the top.
"Those two stand out the most just because of their academic background," he said. "Plus, theyre on the rise athletically as well."
Boykin said Tennessee has sent him information on the school and football program but hasnt shown heavy interest.
Boykin hopes that changes. He said he plans to take an unofficial visit to Knoxville this summer to let UTs coaches know where he stands.
"I have a lot of interest in Tennessee," he said. "I definitely plan on going through. Its just getting by and getting on campus and showing my face and getting a feel for their school."
Boykin said he hopes to attend UTs camp in June if his schedule will allow it. He said he would alter his list of schools if UTs recruitment picked up.
"Tennessee would definitely jump up there in my top three, probably top two," he said. "They were my childhood favorite and it would be a dream to go to Tennessee."
Boykin said he struggled in the electronically timed 40-yard dash on Sunday, running it in 4.84 seconds.
Boykin said he ran a hand-timed 4.55 40 a few weeks ago. He said hes nursing a groin injury, which might have caused him to run slower.
Still, Boykin appeared frustrated by his 40-time.
"Its bad," he said. "Historically, electronically timed is supposed to be slower than hand timed. Im going to get with some (teammates) and get a speed coach and conditioning coach this summer to try and get better."
Boykins slow time on Sunday may be misleading. Boykins head coach at White Station, Major Wright, told the News Sentinel last month that Boykins speed on the field is his biggest asset.
"Just the fact that he can close in and cover ground so well makes him a little bit remarkable in a sense of tackling," Wright said. "Hes a good football player and when it comes his way hes able to make a play with a little bit of space around him."
Boykin found positives from Sundays camp outside of his slow 40 time. He said the camp, held by StudentSports.com, helped him see how he stacked up against the other players.
"It was a lot of fun," he said. "I got to do some one-on-ones with some really talented running backs. This whole camp experience, being out here with the best players in the country was a lot of fun."
