Teague breaks left ankle again

The New York Jets placed former University of Tennessee offensive lineman Trey Teague on injured reserve after he suffered a broken left ankle for the second time in five months Monday.

He hadn't played in any games this season after signing with the Jets as a free agent in April. Teague, who split his first eight NFL seasons with Denver and Buffalo, suffered the broken ankle early in training camp but started to show signs of being close to playing.

"It was just bad luck, really," coach Eric Mangini said Wednesday. "He had come back and was working into the lineup and it was one of those freak things."

Mangini said Teague suffered the break in a different spot from the initial injury and will probably need surgery to repair the damage.

The Jets were hoping to get Teague into the lineup to add depth to the offensive line.

"Statistically, the odds of that happening twice to the same guy are pretty small," Mangini said.

Haralson Done For Season: San Francisco rookie defensive end/linebacker Parys Haralson was placed on the season-ending injured reserve list after undergoing surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle.

The former UT standout sustained the injury in last Sunday's 9-3 win over the Minnesota Vikings while grasping at the ankles of running back Mewelde Moore. Haralson's second-quarter tackle after Moore caught a shovel pass from quarterback Brad Johnson on third down was part of the 49ers' best defensive game of the season.

Haralson was becoming a regular in the 49ers' third-down defense by spelling linebacker Manny Lawson as a pass rusher. Haralson also missed most of training camp and the first regular-season game with a foot injury.

Baker Joins Patriots: The New England Patriots claimed safety Rashad Baker off of waivers from the Minnesota Vikings.

Baker has played in 29 career games, including three starts for the Buffalo Bills (2003-04).

The 5-foot-10-inch, 198-pound defensive back was originally signed by the Bills as an undrafted free agent out of UT in 2004.

Baker played in one game with the Vikings and recorded one special teams tackle.
