Cutcliffe says no one calling

David Cutcliffe said he has not been contacted by any schools concerning a head coaching vacancy.

"I'm not pursuing anything," Tennessee's offensive coordinator said Monday.

Head coach Phillip Fulmer said he also has not been contacted concerning Cutcliffe. Fulmer said he would expect any school looking for a coach to contact him or the UT athletic department before speaking to Cutcliffe.

Cutcliffe's name has been linked to two recent job openings: North Carolina State, which fired Chuck Amato this weekend, and Alabama, which fired Mike Shula on Monday.

Cutcliffe's name was mentioned as a possible successor to Amato by the Raleigh News and Observer, which also named Navy's Paul Johnson, Tennessee Titan offensive coordinator and former Wolfpack coordinator Norm Chow and former East Carolina coach Steve Logan as candidates.

Cutcliffe also was a candidate for the North Carolina job before the Tar Heels hired Butch Davis.

Cutcliffe coached at Ole Miss from 1999 to 2004, compiling a 44-29 record. He returned to UT this season and resurrected an offense that had floundered last season en route to a 5-6 record. The Vols are 9-3 this year and are likely to play in a New Year's day bowl.

The connection to the Crimson Tide is decades old. Cutcliffe was a linebacker before being injured at Alabama and coached high school football in the state from 1976 to 1981.

Fine Finale: UT senior Turk McBride was named the SEC defensive lineman of the week for his efforts Saturday against Kentucky.

McBride split time between tackle and end while recording eight tackles. He also made a key fourth-down stop behind the line of scrimmage to help UT secure a 17-12 victory.

McBride leads all SEC linemen with 64 total tackles.
