Catholic's Smith starts official visits

Harrison Smith's fall itinerary is nearly complete.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound athlete from Catholic High School will take his first official visit this weekend. Smith will travel to South Bend, Ind., for the Notre Dame-Penn State game.

"I want to see what it's like on game day, compared to Tennessee," Smith said.

Albeit unofficial, Smith was in Neyland Stadium last Saturday when UT beat California, 35-18.

"I was impressed," said Smith, who added he expected a close UT victory.

Smith said he will take an official visit to Stanford on Nov. 4 for the Southern Cal game. He said he has tentatively planned to take his official visit to UT on Dec. 10, likely the Vols' most significant official visitor weekend.

Smith said UT's continued improvement could prove to be a strong factor in his decision.

Smith said he's planning on taking an official visit to Auburn. The Tigers seem to be making a strong push.

"I like the coaches down there," Smith said.

A dark horse to watch in the race is Georgia. Smith said the Bulldogs have come calling but it's "not serious" as of now.

Smith said he wouldn't automatically disregard Georgia just because the Bulldogs started recruiting him late. Smith said he believes Georgia didn't recruit him aggressively because most schools think he'll end up at UT or Notre Dame, his admitted leaders.

"It's hard to blame them because of where I am," Smith said.

Smith said he once intended to visit Ole Miss but that is looking unlikely.
