For the third consecutive game, true freshman Tim Tebow is scheduled to see playing time. Meyer said he isnt sure whether Tebow will enter the game as early as the first half, which he did last Saturday against Central Florida. In his first possession against UCF, Tebow engineered a touchdown drive.
"Ill wait and see (before deciding if Tebow plays in the first half),"
Meyer said. "I dont want to commit, but he certainly could be (in the game in the first half). Hes earned that right. Hes done very well.
"Hes going to play. Hes had a good week. Thats two weeks in a row. The first week he was sick as a dog. Hes had two good weeks."
Emotional lift?: Word out of Knoxville is that injured defensive tackle Justin Harrell is going to gut it out and play in Saturdays game with a torn biceps muscle.
Meyer said he isnt so much concerned about the emotional lift it might give the Vols.
"I worry about him being a great football player," Meyer said. "Hes a guy thats hard to block. Injuries are the worst part of the job, the worst part for the coaches and the players. We wish him the best.
"I dont know how severe the injury is. They wouldnt play him if he couldnt play with two arms."
Intriguing Matchups: Meyer said the most interesting matchups Saturday night will be between the quarterbacks (Erick Ainge and Chris Leak) and the secondaries of both teams.
"The two quarterbacks and the two corners and safeties ... thats going to be an intriguing matchup," Meyer said. "Theyre (the Vols) very good.
"Theyve three very good receivers.
"The matchup between our offensive line and their defensive line is going to be intriguing as well."
This will be the first major test for Floridas inexperience offensive front.
"I feel very good (about the offensive line)," Meyer said.
Kicking Game Stuff: Meyer said the Gators have worked hard this week to solve their problems in the place-kicking game, but hes not sure how that will translate to the field Saturday night.
"Weve work awful hard at it," Meyer said. "I want to see it in a game environment."
Comeback Kids?: Defensive end Ray McDonald and wide receiver Andre Caldwell have been talking about having a breakout game this week. The two were seriously injured in the UT game last season. Caldwell missed the rest of the year with a broken leg and McDonalds season basically ended with a torn knee ligament. He had surgery on both knees after the season.
"Those arent just sprained ankles they went through," Meyer said. "Ive heard them say (they want to have a big game), too. I havent brought it up.
"When the foot hits the ball, the most prepared team is going to win.
"Everyone has their own motivation to play. Ours is to go win an SEC game."
