Two top-30 prospects visit Vols

Hickson, Koshwal are 6-9, muscular

The Tennessee men’s basketball team is hosting two of the top high school prospects in the nation on official visits this weekend.

J.J. Hickson, from Wheeler High School in Marietta, Ga., and Mac Koshwal, from Chicago’s Boys to Men Academy are getting an up-close and personal look at the Vols.

Hickson, ranked No. 15 in the nation by Rivals and No. 21 by scout, is a 6-foot-9, 230-pound aggressor around the boards who also possesses a nice outside shot.

Hickson is also a strong finisher in transition, which would bode well in coach Bruce Pearl’s uptempo style.

Koshwal, 6-9, 240, is another inside-out threat.

"Mac is definitely a high-low guy who can put the ball on the floor like a guard,’’ said Loren Jackson, Koshwal’s coach and guardian. "Mac is ready to come in physically and mentally and start. That’s why they (Tennessee) are after him.’’

Jackson’s words aren’t to be taken lightly. He’s one of the top coaches in the Chicago area and he’s produced numerous collegiate and NBA players, among them Duke’s Sean Dockery.

"Mac is right there with Sean, except he’s bigger and stronger, 6-9, 240 with four-percent body fat,’’ said Jackson, who started the Boys to Men Academy two years ago after a 15-year career at Julian High School in Chicago.

Koshwal is ranked 26th in the nation by Rivals and 37th by Scout. He earned national acclaim with his performance at the Reebok Camp in New Jersey.

Like Hickson, Koshwal is a tireless worker on the court who can shoot with great range.

Hickson is considering the Vols, Florida, Kentucky and Georgetown, while Koshwal’s list of potential schools includes Louisville, DePaul, Illinois, Southern Cal, Oklahoma State and LSU.

Jackson said Koshwal will visit LSU Sept. 22-23, and his final visit will be a hometown DePaul at a yet-to-be determined date. This is Koshwal’s first official visit.

Cameron Tatum, a 6-5 shooting guard, will also be making his official visit.

Tatum is no stranger to the Vols, as he has made his intentions to attend UT known. Tatum is attending prep school at The Patterson School in Lenoir, N.C., with hopes of getting his academics in order.

Tatum is ranked 64th by Rivals and 77th by scout
