UT's Jones to interview for Marshall coaching job
The Thundering Herd is replacing Ron Jirsa, who coached there the past four years, finishing 13-19 this past season playing in Conference USA.
Jones, who has coached alongside Bruce Pearl for two seasons at UT and four seasons at Wisconsin-Milwaukee, has been the primary recruiter on Pearl's staff.
The Tennessee freshman class consisting of Ramar Smith, Duke Crews, Wayne Chism and Josh Tabb was the highest rated in the SEC last year and helped lead the Vols to the Sweet 16 this season.
Jones is also largely responsible for setting up the Vols' schedule, which has ranked in the top 10 in the nation the past two years.
Prior to joining Pearl at Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Jones spent five seasons at Toledo and three at Buffalo as an assistant coach.
Other candidates for the Marshall job include Florida associate head coach Donnie Jones, former Virginia, Providence and Xavier coach Pete Gillian and former St. Johns and George Washington coach Mike Jarvis.
Jones, 46, makes $155,000 at UT.
