At least four former Vols sign free-agent contracts

Cory Anderson's phone didn't ring during Saturday or Sunday's NFL draft, but the former Austin-East High School and Tennessee fullback is still heading to the NFL.

Shortly after the final round ended Sunday, Anderson agreed to sign a free-agent contract with the Houston Texans, one of at least four former Vols to agree to deals after the draft.

Wide receiver Jayson Swain (Chicago), kicker James Wilhoit (Baltimore) and defensive tackle Matt McGlothlin (Kansas City) also agreed to deals Sunday.

Anderson said he expected to go as high as the fifth round, but was not one of six fullbacks selected in the draft.
"I just have to make something out of my opportunity," Anderson said Sunday night. "I didn't get drafted, so I've just got to do it another way."

Wilhoit turned down an offer from the Washington Redskins to sign with the Ravens, who want Wilhoit as a kickoff specialist with the potential to take over when their Pro Bowl kicker Matt Stover retires.

"It's a great situation," Wilhoit said. "It's a good opportunity to get my feet wet in the NFL. If I kick off well, I can make the roster."
