Bjorklund gives U.S. a shot
Tennessee incoming freshman Angie Bjorklund earned some valuable minutes off the bench and rewarded the U.S. women’s basketball team with some outside shooting Wednesday.
The top-seeded Americans improved to 6-0 by beating Slovakia 84-60 in the U19 World Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Bjorklund made two 3-points late in the first half to help the U.S. lead 49-34 at halftime.
She finished 4 of 8 from the field and 3 of 6 from 3-point range to finish with 11 points. Bjorklund added three assists and made only one turnover.
“I think we came out and took care of business,” Bjorklund said. “Our energy was up, and we played as a team. We are a deep bench and our players coming of the bench and our starters all played with more intensity and focus tonight.”
UT signee Vicki Baugh started and had two points on 1 of 2 shooting with three rebounds and one block in 18 minutes.
The U.S. will play No. 4 Czech Republic on Friday in the quarterfinals.
