Galbreath top candidate to join strength staff
Former Tennessee offensive lineman Harry Galbreath is the leading candidate to replace UT associate strength and conditioning coach Roderick Moore.
Galbreath played in every game during his UT career (1984-87) and played nine seasons in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers and New York Jets.
After his NFL career, Galbreath was an offensive line coach at Austin Peay, Tennessee State and Hampton.
UT coach Phillip Fulmer declined to comment Wednesday on who might be hired to replace Moore, who left this week after accepting the head strength-and-conditioning position at Florida International University.
UT will continue the interview process. Galbreath is one of a small pool of candidates. The Vols hired former linebacker Kevin Simon to replace Raasaan Haralson, who was moved to a graduate assistant position for the football team.
Moving Melancon: Defensive tackle Rolando Melancon is expected to transfer from City College of San Francisco to Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Fla., this weekend. The 2007 signee from Lutcher (La.) High School enrolled in the junior college after he failed to qualify academically at UT.
Melancon is still expected to enroll at UT after junior college. However, by moving to Gulf Coast, Melancon will likely have to spend two football seasons in junior college instead of one, which would have been the case had he stayed in San Francisco.
Melancon could redshirt one season meaning he could enroll at UT with three years of eligibility.
Kickoff: It may be a bit anticlimactic when compared to years past but UT’s official report day is today. Fulton tailback/defensive back Dennis Rogan is the only Vol not on campus for the summer term and is expected to enroll this week.
The Vols begin preseason practice Friday afternoon. UT’s annual media day is Saturday morning.
