Tennessee freshman Vicki Baugh had eight rebounds in a starting role as the United States defeated the Czech Republic 85-66 on Friday and advanced to the semifinals of the U19 Women’s World Championship in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Jantel Lavender led the U.S. with 25 points. The U.S. will play Spain today.
Baugh played 13 minutes and was 1 of 4 from the field and made one of her two free throws to score 3 points.
“We didn’t ever panic today even when we were down after the first quarter,” said Baugh. “We used our strong points, which are rebounding and our inside scoring.”
UT freshman Angie Bjorklund played 15 minutes and scored 4 points on 2 of 5 shooting. She had one assist, one steal and one turnover.
“We have just two more games together, and we are all really excited about reaching the semifinals,” said Bjorklund. “Everyone is just so excited to be here.”
