Delmonico joins FSU as volunteer assistant

Former Tennessee baseball coach Rod Delmonico is returning to the Florida State baseball program as a volunteer assistant coach.

“He has a lot of knowledge and experience, a great addition to our program,” FSU coach Mike Martin told The Tallahassee Democrat. “He’ll bring a lot of suggestions.”

Delmonico was an assistant coach under Martin 1984-89 before leaving to take the head coaching position at Tennessee. He led the Vols to a 699-396 record with three College World Series appearances in 18 seasons.

Tennessee fired Delmonico after a 34-25 season that saw the Vols miss the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive year.

Delmonico’s son, Tony, transferred to FSU this summer and will play either second base or shortstop next season.

Pete Jenkins, who was a volunteer assistant coach the last two seasons for FSU, is leaving to join the Ohio State staff.
