Tennessee golfer Marci Turner and Nicole Smith won first-round matches Wednesday at the U.S. Women’s Amateur golf championship in Carmel, Ind.
Turner, a rising senior and seeded 10th, defeated No. 55 Brianna Do of Lakewood, Calif., 5 and 4 in the 64-player field.
Next up for Turner today in the round of 32 is No. 23 Mallory Blackwelder of Versailles, Ky.
Smith, a rising junior and seeded 19th, ousted No. 46 Tamasin Clelland of New Zealand, 4 and 3.
Smith is paired with No. 51 Kylene Pulley of Kokomo, Ind.
