Holbert tears ACL, out for 2007
Tennessee senior David Holbert will miss the entire 2007 season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Friday’s practice.
Holbert, who is the lone player on UT’s roster recruited as a fullback, moved to tight end during spring practice.
Holbert watched Saturday’s scrimmage from the sidelines on crutches.
“That’s disappointing for us; he has done really well,” UT coach Phillip Fulmer said. “Fortunately, David has a redshirt year left and we had discussed such a redshirt scenario because we have two other seniors at that position in Chris Brown and Brad Cottam. Now he has to take it and have a tremendous attitude about his rehab and we will have him back next year. It’s a plus if he makes it a plus and I hope he will.”
He will undergo surgery as soon as the swelling around his knee subsides.
