BANGKOK, Thailand — Tennessee women’s golfer Diana Cantú came through for herself and her country Friday at the World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand.
In the final round of the women’s golf competition, the Lady Vol fired a 1-under-par 71 to tie for first place on the day, and grab the tournament’s silver medal at 12-over 296. Danielle McVeigh of Ireland won by four shots.
The rising sophomore’s second-place showing hoisted the Mexican national team to victory over Ireland by one stroke. Cantú also shot 76, 75 and 74 at Watermill Golf and Gardens.
Cantú, from Monterey, Mexico, played in all 12 tournaments as a freshman at Tennessee.
UT golfer Charlie Ford, representing Great Britain, won silver with a 2-under 286, five shots behind Ming-chuan Chen of Chinese Taipei.
