Tennessee freshman defensive end Ben Martin suffered a torn knee ligament in his left knee that will sideline him for at least several weeks and quite possibly the entire 2007 season.
Martin suffered the non-contact injury when he jumped, then landed awkwardly during Saturday night’s scrimmage. Martin fell to the turf and had to be helped off the field, putting little, if any, weight on the injured leg.
The complete extent of Martin’s injury is not known. If he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament, he’ll be out for the season. If it’s the medial collateral ligament that’s torn, Martin’s absence wouldn’t be as long, but still could be season ending.
The extent of the injury, whether it’s a complete or partial tear, will also determine how long Martin is sidelined.
Martin had shown significant improvement recently in preseason camp and was expected to play significant snaps this fall. Now, it seems much more likely he’ll redshirt.
Martin, a U.S. Army All-American, was one of UT’s highest-rated prospects in the 2007 signing class after starring at LaSalle High School in Cincinnati.

this really sucks. this better not being a season riddled with injuries or i'm going to have to become a competitive snake charmer.

ARRGGGG! This is no good. I will be praying for you Ben.

The next injury is gonna be me having a freakin stroke!!! AAAAAAAGGHHHHHHH!
Plasticman writes:
I hate this for him. He was going to be one of the freshman contributors this year. I hope it is not his ACL.

With the exception of this and Holbert (who was asked to RS anyway) I would say we have stayed very healthy to this point. Before the scrimmage, it was stated we were going into the outing just about at full strength, except for Karl and Holbert, when was the last time you heard those words two weeks before the season!
One injury I have been watching is Percy Harvin and his achilles tendinitis....being a speedster, you have to wonder how much that can hamper him. That would be a huge blow to florida, don't everyone shed a tear at the same time!
GO VOLS!!!
orangebloodgmc writes:
Hope its not an acl; my daughter has had 3 of those rebuilt but is still playing college soccer. Maybe 2 or 3 this season on our team is not enough for a trend, but is something going on here, maybe lack of adequate arch support that lets the foot roll and knee get more torque on it? Where is SAVol that used to be on the pay site? Good luck, Ben, David H. and Ellix.

Here I am, orangebloodgmc. I just don't have anything pertinent to add without knowing the diagnosis. It's a shame--two ***** recruits to UT (Martin and Morley) are featured on the site today, and neither likely will be playing for us this fall. Martin is a very impressive athlete (saw him in practices here last Jan), and good enough to be in the mix this year. Did your son enjoy camp in Kerrville? My wife and I went to Saint Louis Day in Castroville this afternoon--a chance to eat barbeque, attend an open air flea market, silent auction, bingo parlor, horseshoe pit, etc. Missed the cloggers, Flemish folk dancers, and various baritones in front of a country band. A few years ago, two decades or thereabouts, a Catholic order of nuns who founded the church and school there (and sister facilities in San Antonio) decided to re-create the trip of the original sisters from Galveston to Castroville by stagecoach/covered wagons. But along the way, the horses got spooked, the stagecoach/wagons turned over, and the orthopedists on staff at Santa Rosa were treating broken bones of the sisters--anecdotes that you just don't get anywhere else, eh? BTW, Kerrville Tivy has the best player in the area, LB Kyle Prater, an LSU commit, as is the SA Reagan TB Marcus Wright. From the showings of Creer and Moore in Knoxville this summer (saw where Nick Stephens did well, too, and Nevin McKenzie ought to be heard from before the year is over), it ought to be obvious that there are players in these parts. Hope that any of our scouts go to www.mysa.com and read the area preview, and target any specific needs. Go Vols! SAVol

Thanks for the report, txsvol.

Good to see you txsvol(SAVOL). You truly are a great contributer to this site. Too bad about Martin but he probably wouldn't have played much. Hopefully he rehaps hard and comes back bigger and stronger. Looks to be a future star. Go Big Orange!

Who? who? jwraymond car 54 where are you? Who? Who what? didn't like morleys name or Ben Martin?
orangebloodgmc writes:
Good to hear from you txsvol, but hope we don't have much incidents this fall that will require orthopedic explanations but glad youre around if we do. Nice that these other former payers are still around too. Yeah, my son had a great time in camp in Texas; left just before the rains. Thanks for all the recruits from there; can't wait to see Creer and McKenzie turning it loose in actual games.
txsvol#372416 writes:
Thanks for all the compliments. I think that those of us from the old site ought to sign with our old names until we learn the new ones. I saw that bonzai vol posted recently, and recognize some of us whose signs are the same. (The site sure does have a lot of stuff to weed through now, doesn't it?) But, whatever happened to busybody? I am SOooOOO ready for the football season to begin. Go Vols! SAVol

andy112382, what is the latest on Harvins injury? You are right, BIG blow to that offense if he's down.
He was always a threat to break a big one at least once a game.
Any word on Cokers return?
orangebloodgmc writes:
I thought vol4jesus was busybody? And KingsportVol must have switched aliases, but he don't have to fess up if'n he don't want to. C'mon kickoff!! Down to 12 days now.
orangebloodgmc writes:
And what happened to former payers,
Iron(-something) and Stallionvol? They used to have good commentary something like Buckfama's. Just wondering.
BOASoldier writes:
I am not from the paysite ... I am a newcomer and I enjoy reading what most of you have to say ... I have always been a huge fan but stat memorization has never been my forte'. I am amazed at the knowledge that some of you have and distribute on this site ... my posts usually have something to do with hoping we slober knock the other team or giving my humble opinion but I enjoy those of you who have real knowledge of the game and our team ... it's a great place to learn and pick up key facts.
BOASoldier writes:
Oh and it seems (from the posts) that we may have an orthopedic surgeon on this site and since all doctors study the full scheme of medicine to some degree ... what would you say I do to prevent a preseason heart attack since the anticipation has me on the edge of my seat just writing this post... I am in great condition as far as cardiovascularly my only ailment is Juvenile or Type 1 diabetes and with recent bouts of hypoglycemia i have become somewhat numb to most adrenalin spurts but every time I think of this season I swear I'm about to croke if it doesn't start soon. And my girlfriend will be and ex if she has to listen to anything else about UT football ... or so she says (but hey we all have to sacrifice something for the greater good ...lol)
vol4jesus writes:
No sir. I ,in a former postlife, was sctnfn. I broughtmy 'ORANGE TINTED' glasses with me though. Helps cut down the glare of players in ORANGE & WHITE as they glide across the field to tds or tackles. My ORANGE blood is starting to jump with anticipation of gameday! GOOD OLE ROCKY TOP......ROCKY TOP TENNESSEE! WHEW!!!
orangebloodgmc writes:
No offense intended, vol4jesus. BOA, I enjoy your commentary. I'm not saying those who were payers are special or anything. But we had gotten a little bit familiar with each other's perspectives or quirks and I was just mildly curious to sort out the new reshuffling of who's who. But all that matter's is ... its football time in Tennessee!
BOASoldier writes:
Oh I completely grasped you intent and I agreed with it ... I can definitely see how a paysite would weed out the individuals who are on here to speak on something they have no knowledge of ... I was just sayin' that this was a good site for those like me to gain knowledge on ... and for the most part everyone is optimistic about the season ... I can't wait ... bring on ROCKY TOP lets stomp the bear cubs
orangebloodgmc writes:
KingsportVol, you give me hope that I too can come back home to upper East TN some day. Been down here on the bayous since '83. My kids used to think the Disney flying elephant's name was Gumbo!
But my blood still runs deep orange.
Colliervol writes:
Personally, I think Ralphie is back on here too. Judging by some of the persistently negative dimwits that have shown up for free, could be any of two or three with new handles. Don't worry much about them though. I figure they'll be whining whether Fulmer is coaching or if we get somebody new. Won't make any difference. Good to see some of the old crew around though.
BigAl writes:
Is it free now? Heck, I didn't even know I wasn't still paying for it. I'd better check those credit card statements more closely. I probably missed it by not visiting the site too much.
txsvol#372416 writes:
You should have received credit for the unused portion of your subscription on your credit card by now. I have certain visual images of posters from the for-pay site, which probably are not true. For example, I never could quite decide whether BonzaiVol actually grows small trees with an Oriental figurine perched on the gravel/moss, or whether he may have led a charge in some military engagement. Huey Pilot obviously flies/flew helicopters, and lives in Louisiana (as does OrangeBloodGMC). CollierVol andy, etc, almost always have excellent takes. There are some great military heroes of mine:AFVol and RockyToptilIDie. I'll probably pay more attention when the season starts, and learn the new names. Go Vols! SAVol
